Slow ’em Down
Senator Chris Murphy reports that last Friday night Republicans put the outline of their “one big beautiful” (budget) bill up for debate. It was a procedural step to move the bill forward.
The Republicans put up a bill that included a massive hike in the debt ceiling–that they need to get away with their tax giveaway to billionaires and corporations, but is paid for by us via slashing popular and necessary programs like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, SNAP (food stamps), to name just a few.
Through this procedural process, any senator can offer as many amendments as they want. Murphy and his Democratic colleagues did just that. They knew that Republicans would oppose them unanimously but the Democrats had two objectives: First: Republicans were forced to put their opinion on record on the most corrupt parts of the Trump/Musk’s agenda. Second: Murphy and his colleagues are committed to making every process and procedure as slow and painful as possible and as long as the Republicans choose to ignore the constitutional crisis happening before our eyes. With the help of us and many other grassroots organizations, more and more Democratic colleagues are joining him in this effort.
